Mentoring
Mentoring is the key component of the CBO program and begins shortly after the student’s acceptance into CBO. Spanning the full six years of the CBO program, the 1:1 mentor relationships provide the necessary guidance for Scholars to navigate college. They inspire our scholars, help them dream big, set realistic goals, provide feedback, encourage accountability and celebrate successes with them. Because most of the students in the CBO program are first-generation in their families to go to college, a mentoring relationship can provide the motivation and resources Scholars need to succeed.
Community volunteers are screened by CBO and trained to address the particular needs of young people by becoming mentors. Once in college, the mentors provide the necessary emotional support for the Scholars to adapt to college life.
