On Sunday, November 15, CBO will be at the Studebaker Theater in Chicago for Mexodus, the award-winning musical co-created by Brian Quijada — one of CBO’s first Scholars. Brian grew up in Highland Park, graduated from Highland Park High School in 2007, and was the first in his family to go to college, at the University of Iowa. Twenty years after CBO began, he is bringing Mexodus home, and we have a block of seats held for the CBO community.
Mexodus is a live-looping hip-hop musical about a freedom seeker and an unlikely ally crossing into Mexico, a lesser-known route that ran south while the Underground Railroad ran north. It has won Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Helen Hayes, and Drama League awards.
Brian’s story is such a beautiful illustration of what CBO has made possible.
We hope you’re able to join us for this special event.
